The Official Home of Blue Max Nostalgia Merchandise
The goal of this lproject is to re-create one of the original Blue Max funny cars. For a variety of reasons, we chose the 1978 Plymouth Arrow bodied version.
The body for this project is a the 1978 Plymouth Arrow. This car was campaigned during the years that Raymond Beadle drove the Blue Max.
As anyone that's ever done pain work will tell you, it's all in the preparation. In getting this paint job ready we've spent over 100 hours sanding, priming, taping, etc. It's a lot of work but it must be done to honor the legacy of the Blue Max.
This project is not just about the car. We're bringing back the truck too. While we obviously went with a new tractor for safety and reliability, the trailer is the genuine article. This was the first semi trailer built for the Blue Max by Raymond Beadle's Chaparral Trailer company.
Both the car and the truck are getting the same gold leaf lettering of the original vehicles. It's a time-honored art that is rarely seen in today's world of colored stickers, but the Blue Max isn't the same without it. The artist for the gold leaf work is none other than Alton Gillespie who did some of the original Blue Max cars.
